A Dependable Voice
for Wisconsin's Working Families
MEET DAN BUKIEWICZ
Dan’s career reflects a lifelong commitment to skilled trades, public service, and building strong communities across southeastern Wisconsin. Elected President of the Milwaukee Building and Construction Trades Council in January 2014, Dan represents more than 15,000 union tradeswomen and tradesmen, advocating for workforce development, training, recruitment, and fair labor standards across the construction industry. In this role, he has negotiated more than $2 billion in Project Labor Agreements, ensuring large-scale projects deliver quality work, good wages, and career opportunities for local workers.
Dan’s journey began in 1987 as an apprentice electrician with IBEW Local 494, shortly after graduating from Milwaukee Public Schools. Over more than three decades in the building trades, he gained hands-on experience and leadership skills, spending 19 years with a major electrical contractor where he rose from field electrician to Service Department Manager. There, he oversaw budgets exceeding $1.6 million and managed teams ranging from six to sixty employees. In 2012, he became a Business Representative for IBEW Local 494, representing members on contracts, apprenticeships, pensions, grievances, and labor-management relations.
In addition to his labor leadership, Dan has devoted himself to public service in the City of Oak Creek, where he is currently serving his third term as Mayor. Prior to becoming mayor, he served five terms as an Alderman and has been appointed to numerous boards and commissions focused on planning, finance, parks, education, and economic development. As mayor, Dan works closely with county, state, and federal partners to ensure Oak Creek—now one of the fastest-growing communities in Milwaukee County—continues to provide essential services, maintain strong schools, promote economic growth, and keep property taxes among the lowest in the county.
Dan also serves in leadership roles with organizations including WRTP/BIG STEP, Building Advantage, the Milwaukee Area Labor Council, and several regional economic, infrastructure, and workforce boards.
Born and raised in the City of Milwaukee, Dan remains deeply connected to the communities he serves. He has been happily married to his wife, Carolyn, for 15 years, and is the proud father of two adult children. His life’s work is driven by a simple belief: strong workers build strong communities.
